Jacob Eury circa 1825

Available late summer, here is a sensational bow by one of the truly great makers. His bows are always very tough to source, in forty years of dealing I have only had three to sell! Directly from an recently retired delightful lady based in Copenhagen it shall enter the workshop in June after a visit to Paris.

His bows always have a delightful immediacy, articulation is always crisp and effortless once you understand how to get the best from the bow. It is also a delight to have a bow by him that is stamped, it is clear that he knew F. X. Tourte, it is unclear quite how deep their relationship was, but understandably Eury used Toutre’s model as his own, along with Persoit and Lupot. So here it is, a bow from the golden period of making, they don’t really get any better!

With these early bows, one of the most remarkable aspects is the quality of the pernambuco, just off the scale really! The figure in the wood on this bow is understated, but delightful in its subtle nature, a bow to cherish. It hooked me quite easily, I used it on stage in a concert and it effortlessly rode over a very tough programme.

A contemporary of Francois Xavier Tourte, in performance and design there is very little difference between these two exceptional makers.

After two hundred years the original face was damaged when an eager player tried the bow, I was not pleased! It shall be replaced this summer. Note the characteristic central front chamfer, After some tlc an exceptional bow.

Price to be determined presently.

Note the extremely fine quality pernambuco on this great master’s work, circa 1830, the golden period of bow making.
