Nicolas Remy Maire circa 1840
A truly stunning bow in first class condition with no damage and in near mint condition here is an exceptional bow. This bow is ready in late January, early February to play on after a small time in the workshop. This era of Maire is my favourite to both play on and study, before he turned to making more like Dominique Peccatte as his type of design became the fashionable bow in the 1850’s in Paris. This bow is provided with a certificate from Cabinet d’Archetiers Paris.
By the early 1840s Maire was experiencing financial difficulties, mainly due to the prevalent economic crisis in France. It seemed his decision was to further improve his bows and enter the 1844 Paris exhibition to put his bows centre of the musical influences in Paris at the time. His style is very close to Etienne Pajeot a colleague he would have known, he clearly also was aware a friends with both Dominique Peccatte and Nicolas Maline.
