Dominique Peccatte circa 1838

Stamped Vuillaume a Paris this is a Brevet D’invention bow circa 1838. The majority of these bows were made by Dominique Peccatte although Pierre Simon made a small number.

Here is a wonderful example bought from an old English estate with good pedigree. A first class playing bow it is hard to imagine a better performing stick for the intelligent recitalist or serious chamber musician.

The head is pinned although they are hidden. More recently the bow has had further restoration to bring it back to first class playing condition. The button is correct and the Frog is a wonderful replica of a circa 1830′s frog.

As a self rehairing bow it is not unusual that it has suffered damage as the hole drilled into the head to receive the hank of bow hair weakened the head to the extent that most are damaged in some way.

The original frog would have been static on the bow with an internal winding system, most of these frogs disappeared some time ago.

The bow has a certificate from Michael J. Taylor of Los arcos Finos, Spain.
