Jacob Eury circa 1820
I have not been able to offer a Eury for sale since the last sold in 2008 due to their relative scarcity and the financial punch they carry in the international marketplace. I am particularly pleased to be able to offer this superb example after searching on several continents and constantly being outbid by other dealers.
Some experts have suggested that Paganini's favourite bow was a Eury, One with several repairs! This type of bow was and still is first call for many soloist given its playing credentials. Although it is interesting to note that Sivori (Paganini's only pupil) played on an Etienne Pajeot similar to the one for sale here at Peter Hembrough Bows.
Correct in all areas it has a beautiful frog with the typical stopped backplate that he made from 1815-1825 making dating this bow straightforward. From a playing point of view it is hard to beat, with a wonderful bright easy articulation.
Indeed a bow to cherish, made financially possible due to some slight damage to the head. The head, held by internal pins is utterly secure and ready for a new owner to enjoy. Bear in mind the repair is nearly invisible, only under very close scrutiny is it possible to see.
