Joseph Alfred Lamy c. 1895
Here is a first class Lamy pere in fine condition, it has some slight wear on the handle. Of course the reason it has wear is because successive violinists have found it their favourite bow to use throughout their career. Most recently it spent about forty years in Switzerland before arriving in the U.K. last week after some remedial tidying up in a fine workshop in Spain. Weighing 58g it is a first class delightful bow from perhaps Lamy pere’s highest point in his illustrious career.
The bow has a unique and glorious feeling on the string, powerful but very versatile. It has a direct rich creamy sound and in the hand you get the distinct feeling you can have a dialogue whilst playing. It is quite clear Joseph Lamy had a fine grasp of just what the soloist needs. A free opulent broad sounding bow with a beguiling feeling in the hand. It come with a certificate from the renowned maker, restorer and expert Michael Taylor.
