Peccatte workshop bow
These bows offer tremendous value, especially so when you look at the quality of the work on the stick and head on the bow. My goodness this is very fine work. It has a Lafleur style frog and button from the same era, this is not a big shock,
Lafleur would have known the Peccatte workshop as they would have met in Paris in the 1840’s. Despite being made from ‘Bois d’abeille’ it still has all the distinctive playing qualities you would expect from this workshop. As Dominique Peccatte bows are becoming more and more expensive so the bows from the workshop are showing very steep rises in price. Over the past ten years they have shown 400% rise, pretty astonishing.
To me though, I was always surprised by how reasonable their prices were, given they come out of the workshop of the best ever bow maker in history. They are rather difficult to buy as the market does not see that many, so here is an opportunity to own a bow only going in one direction value wise! All the better in this instance is it carries a letter from Jean-Francois Raffin stating it is indeed from the Peccatte workshop.
Below is a copy of an order for such bows as this one from Charles-Francois Gand in Paris to Peccatte, by then back in Mirecourt overseeing his workshop. So here is a bow of historical importance with the highest playability credentials possible but on a budget!
