Hippolyte Camille LAMY 1875 - 1942 SOLD enjoy in Barcelona Joan! a pleasure meeting you.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for this fine comparatively rare maker, from 1890, at the age of fifteen, he worked in the workshop with his father Joseph LAMY. Weighing 57g this bow was made circa 1910 and has a certificate from Jean-Francois Raffin. On the rare occasion his bows do come to market they generally sell around the £20,000 area, however this bow was severely abused by its original owner in France who used it throughout his whole playing career. He regarded it as a tool of work and didn’t realise just how important a maker historically he would become. The stick is totally intact, only very superficial wear on the crown of the head, the handle has some wear as has the original frog, all now beautifully restored in our workshop over many hours. The button is a new replica button made in our workshop and identical to the ones used by Lamy during this period. These bows have the most sensational sound on the string, this one in particular is a very fine playing bow, a delight to own and use. Already a favourite in the workshop as it’s true authentic look emerged after so many years of neglect.
