François Lupot II was born in the city of Orléans, and he was the younger brother of the renowned violin maker Nicolas Lupot. Their father was the violin maker François Lupot I. The river trade gave François access to the very best Pernambuco wood available.

In the late 1820’s Francois Lupot II was becoming extremely popular, he decided to employ a certain young Joseph Lafleur, a superb young maker. This bow, original in every single area, is stamped twice Lupot using his second stamp, this stamp came into use in the late 1820’s.
