A stunning example by this great maker.

Joseph Rene Lafleur c.1835

January 14, 2024

Joseph Rene Lafleur had in my view an advantage over many of his contemporaries in that he was an accomplished violinist and for some time was employed as a professional musician. Thus it gave him a great insight into just what violinists are looking for in a great bow. Some makers are truly great, Francois Xavier Tourte for example, but it really is a mistake to think that other contemporaries did not reach his level, they did, Lafleur often did!

My objective is to bring fine bows to players, to advise on suitability of bows for various playing styles and to marry appropriate bows to clients’ violins. I am committed to restoring fine bows to their former glory both from a historical and an ecological standpoint.
