Rare tortoiseshell mounted bow by Emmanuel Carlier. Sold becky

One of the most difficult decisions a modern maker has is what model his bows should be. They are up against the very best makers that ever lived and also the arrival of quality carbon fibre inexpensive bows. Some makers have chosen to slavishly follow great makers, copying Eugene Sartory’s model to make pastiche Sartory bows.

It is of course, a mistake to think all great bows have been made. Each successive generation produces a small elite group of makers creating bows that are destined to be the collectors dream bow.

Emmanuel’s model is a fabulous synergy of several great makers, Tourte, Persoit and Eury immediately spring to mind, with a hint of Pierre Simon for good measure! His bows just scream ‘play me’ ‘get to know me

Here is an exceptionally rare silver and tortoiseshell mounted bow.

As you can see from the bottom left of the certificate it states that this bow was the 300th bow Emmanuel has made, a celebratory bow, Emmanuel chose Peter Hembrough Bows to offer this bow to the general public.

We are very proud of this honour.
