The son of bow maker Victor Fetique Marcel was apprenticed to his father at the age of 14. His work is inspired by his father and at times it is very hard to tell the difference between these two great makers. Marcel also had the opportunity to use the same high quality pernambuco as his father.
This delightful bow dates from around 1935, by this time Marcel was married and had a workshop at 93, Rue de Maubeuge, Paris 10th.
It is of the highest quality and is a real delight to use, strong but pliable it gives the recitalist many colours to draw from in performance. Sadly the head has suffered damage but it is secured once again by a fine clavette repair attended to by our Spanish workshop. Under the lapping it has a second fine stamp as can be seen.
The bow was damaged early on in its playing career and has spent a number of decades languishing waiting to be brought back to rude health. As a result the rest of the bow is in spectacular condition. This bow comes with its own certificate by Jean-Francois Raffin and is a rare opportunity given this maker spent a great deal of time in bow restoration and his bows are rare to come to the market.
A joy to use it is an ideal bow for a player on a limited budget but looking for a first class playing bow.
