Peter Hembrough Bows are tremendously proud to be able to announce that from September we shall be stocking bows made by the leading British bow maker. Famous for his twenty-four Francois Tourte inspired ‘Caprice Bows’ for several decades Michael’s bows have stood head and shoulders above all others in the modern market.

The spring auction provided some interesting moments. There was a sleeper violin (probably a Landolfi) at one auction with an estimate of £100-£200 that sold for £20,000.

Bought from Michael Rabin’s sister, it was a bow that received many requests to sell from around the world, and is stunning in all respects. In the end though, as a kind of marriage guidance bow dealer, if the bow suits a player to a remarkable extent then you should sell, so off it trots.

One of the top ten bow makers of all time it takes an extraordinary man to pursue an altogether new design of bow rather than slavishly copy the great Dominique Peccatte.

A recent trip to Paris to discuss bows and see good friends!
Ex Vartan Manoogian 1908 Exhibition Eugene Sartory arrives from the U.S.A.
Vartan Manoogian was a first class violinist imbued with an innate sense of inner pulse and form. Listening to his complete solo Bach recording (where he uses his stunning J.B. Guadagnini and this beautiful Sartory) it is clear that he was a thoughtful musician of the highest level.
For many years he was the leader of the Swiss Romande Orchestra before spending the latter part of his career as a revered teacher at the University of Wisconsin Madison.
Dominique Peccatte finds a new home
Peter Hembrough has recently supplied me with an outstanding bow the likes of which I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d own. I had been looking to upgrade my bow for about fifteen years, and had largely drawn a blank, but Peter has found just the sort of stick I was looking for, and I am extremely grateful to him. Being a fine player himself, and loving bows with both his head and his heart, Peter is in a prime position to source fine bows and link them to players. I have known Peter for many years and that he is passionate about finding fine wonderful bows for players – I recommend him highly.

Colleague narrowly misses out on the Lady Blunt Stradivarius
Over the years Peter Hembrough Bows has acted in an advisory capacity when customers are searching for the ideal instrument or bow.
My friend and colleague asked for such help many years ago when buying a Gold and Tortoiseshell Voirin that was one of Yehudi Menuhin‘s main playing bows. Although understandably disappointed.
Knowing Andrew’s playing I feel he would be more suited to a member of the Guarneri or Amati family.
Sandrine and I study a Peccatte
It is always a delight to meet up with colleagues when I am in Paris or indeed elsewhere in France searching out fine bows for customers.
Here I am with Sandrine Raffin in her shop in Paris.
We have just finished discussing a first class Dominique Peccatte bow. This bow is offered through Peter Hembrough bows.
