Eugene Sartory circa 1920 62g Ivory and Gold mounted

Characteristics

A first class, and very unusual Sartory. From a playing point of view it takes some beating.

The contact with the string is wonderful, you really get the feeling that you can mould the sound with this bow. It is almost like a painter’s favourite brush, effortlessly conveying your wishes.

Condition

Superb condition, save for two small Pernambuco plugs put in near the lapping as seen below. This secures the stick where a small crack had appeared. It is an old repair and is tremendously strong and is of no concern. I have played well over two hundred performances of Phantom of the Opera on this bow!

The frog and button are later but correct in every detail (identical both inside and outside) to Sartory’s original specifications during this period of his output. Beautifully crafted by one of Europe’s leading makers for Peter Hembrough Bows they enhance the bow tremendously.
